HTC breidt het nieuwe merk uit met vier nieuwe Windows Mobile modellen
Het nieuwe HTC merk dat afstamt van het oude Qtek introduceert vandaag een tweede lijn met nieuwe modellen. De toestellen bevatten specificaties als Windows Mobile 5.0, GPS ontvanger, ingebouwd navigatiesysteem, QWERTY toetsenbord en HSDPA.
Het nieuwe HTC merk dat afstamt van het oude Qtek introduceert vandaag een tweede lijn met nieuwe modellen. De toestellen bevatten specificaties als Windows Mobile 5.0, GPS ontvanger, ingebouwd navigatiesysteem, QWERTY toetsenbord en HSDPA.
De vier nieuwe modellen worden niet gebracht onder de codenamen; Artemis, Trinity, Excalibur en Oxygen. In plaats daarvan heeft HTC de index van Qtek overgenomen en hier en daar aangepast. De nieuwe toestellen hebben indexen gekregen als S310 of P3300 afhankelijk van het soort toestel. "S" staat namelijk voor smartphone en "P" voor PDA. Het wordt nu wel erg moeilijk om te begrijpen dat de Qtek S200 een PDA is en de HTC S310 een smartphone, maar dat roept HTC over zichzelf af.
De hoofdreden dat deze wijziging is doorgevoerd heeft te maken met het feit dat klanten moeite hadden met het uitspreken van de namen TyTN en MTeor. De namen waren tevens een last voor de marketing mensen. Het verwarrende aspect van de wijzigingen zal een doorwerking krijgen in de introductie van de nieuwe modellen op de Benelux markt. We hopen dat HTC nu stopt met het wijzigen van merknamen en toestelnamen na deze introductie. Het zal de opstart van het nieuwe merk alleen maar bevorderen.
Maar laten we nu eens gaan praten over de nieuwe modellen. Elk toestel heeft zijn eigen specifieke functies. De eerste is de nieuwe S620 met QWERTY toetsenbord.
HTC S620
De nieuwe S620 is een smartphone met landscape scherm en QWERTY toetsenbord. Het toestel bevat Windows Mobile 5.0 voor Smartphone, AKU 3.0 en heeft een uniek touch-sensitive control paneel (JOGGR) rechts naast het scherm. De basis rond het nieuwe toestel zijn de eigenschappen van de Qtek 8500. Dezelfde processor en geheugen zijn toegepast. Zelfs de camera en batterij zijn idem.
Als we kijken naar de markt dan zijn er meer toestellen met QWERTY toetsenbord aanwezig. De nieuwe S620 is het vierde toestel met WM 5.0 en QWERTY toetsenbord in dit vormfactor. De andere modellen zijn de i320 van Samsung, de Q van Motorola, de Treo 750v van Vodafone/PalmOne en de Nokia E61. De grote hoeveelheid modellen toont aan dat de markt klaar is voor dergelijke toestellen die in het keyboard/messaging segment geplaatst kunnen worden.
Wifi is een groot voordeel van de nieuwe S620. Modellen als de i320, Q en Treo 750v hebben dit helaas niet aanboord. Echter er is een ander Samsung model; de i600. Deze zal een belangrijke opponent worden voor de S620.
HTC P3300
De eerste PDA met ingebouwde GPS ontvanger en telefoonfunctionaliteit vanuit het Taiwanese merk is de nieuwe HTC Artemis ook bekend onder de naam HTC P3300. Het nieuwe toestel is gebaseerd op het HTC Prophet platform en daaraan zijn een SiRF Star 3 chip GPS ontvanger, FM radio, TomTom navigatie software en een nieuwe set met bedieningstoetsen toegevoegd. De bedieningstoetsen bestaan uit een centrale scroll toets en trackball die beide in deze samenstelling nog nooit aan een mobiel toestel zijn toegevoegd.
Andere specificaties zijn gelijkwaardig aan de Qtek S200 of Orange SPV M600 met een klein verschil. De P3300 maakt gebruik van MicroSD geheugenkaarten en deze zijn niet hot swappable. De HTC P3300 zal verkrijgbaar zijn in twee pakketten; één met regionale kaarten en één met de volledige versie van TomTom Navigator 6 en een complete set met kaarten van West Europa. Een ideaal navigatiemiddel!
HTC P3600
De nieuwe P3600 is tevens gebaseerd op de HTC Prophet lijn. De nieuwe HSDPA en UMTS telg is de eerste 3G PDA in dit vormfactor. Het toestel geeft de gebruiker de mogelijkheid om videogesprekken te voeren, data te downloaden via de verbinding met hoge snelheid en foto's te maken met de interne 2.0 Mpixel camera.
De P3600 zal in September op de markt worden geïntroduceerd. De verwachting is dat de P3600 de Qtek S200 en Orange SPV M600 zal gaan vervangen in de huidige markt.
HTC S310
De enige echt smartphone binnen deze set van vier is de nieuwe S310. De S310 is de eerste low-end smartphone van het merk en toont aan dat HTC de complete markt wil bereiken met haar producten.
Daarbij moet wel worden gemeld dat de S310 niet anders is dan een HTC Typhoon in een nieuw jasje en met een aantal nieuwe specificaties zoals het Windows Mobile 5.0 besturingssysteem. Het toestel ondersteunt quad band en EDGE verbindingen. Er is een MiniSD geheugenkaart slot en 65.536 kleuren TFT scherm aanwezig met een achterhaalde schermresolutie; 176 x 220 pixels. Zelfs de 1.3 Mpixel camera is niet nieuw en stamt uit de tijd van de HTC Hurricane series (Qtek 8200, SDA II, SPV C550).
De toestellen die hierboven besproken worden zullen allemaal een eigen versie krijgen bij de diverse providers. T-mobile en Orange hebben al bepaalde namen laten vallen, zoals Orange SPV C100 en T-mobile MDA Compact III. Wanneer meer informatie over deze modellen bekend is vindt men het op NieuweMobiel.NL.
